You only have to take one look at the gorgeous creations of Deirdre Hogan from Love Um Cakes to know that she's a straight-up confectionery master! An artisan wedding cake designer working out of her own studio in Wicklow, Deirdre specialises in hyper-realistic sugar paste flowers (seriously, we sometimes have to double check that they're not real florals!) and hand-painted designs. She works closely with each couple to create the perfect bespoke wedding cake for their big day, but dessert tables, handmade cookies and cupcakes are also on the menu. Her repertoire includes everything from classic fondant cakes to trendy, semi-naked numbers, but, whether they're rustic or opulent, her cakes are always, and above all, elegant. To get the ball rolling, couples go for a tasting consultation with Deirdre to sample her gorgeous flavours (salted caramel, coconut and lime, raspberry and almond, to name a few), which will probably become one of the highlights of the wedding planning process!
